Gumtree site formed over 15yrs ago by Simon Crookall and Michael Pennington, it is believed they wanted to help new arrivals in London find somewhere to live and work, am not so sure about that now.
EBay bought Gumtree in 2005 because of it's popularity and quick growth, the main place for people to post ads for free at the time, it's still one of the biggest classified ads site in the world, but it seem to have lost it's way abit since ebay bought it, charging for lots of stuff it never use to charge for, plus they keep deleting genuine ads which has not broken any of their own rules.
It’s claimed to be UK’s biggest classified ads site with more classiffied aders going to it, am not so sure about that either.
Verdict: Gumtree is just another alternative to eBay. It has a large user base and is fee free in circumstances just like most classified ads site, but this new website Cochrane Market is much easier and more enjoyable to use, so why not try CochraneMarket Classified ads site for yourself?
